Green Materials Can Create a Healthy House
Using "green" materials when building or remodeling a home can be better for your health and the environment. Organic paint, nontoxic sealers, cabinets made from wheat, and bamboo furniture and flooring are just some of the options to build a healthier home. Using material from renewable resources like bamboo or wheat can protect dwindling forests of old growth trees. Bamboo and wheat grow incredibly fast, so it is easy to replace compared to oak or maple. For an even more eco-friendly healthy house, people are building the structure from straw bales. The straw bale structure is then covered with a clay plaster for a wall surface. Straw bales are incredibly energy efficient and strong and can usually be harvested locally.
