Green Works for Somersett Town Square

The Somersett Town Square opened in the summer of 2007 and has already become one of the great focal points of the Somersett community in Reno. The Roundabout Market Everyday Gourmet and Whispering Vine Wine & Coffee Company have added convenience to the neighborhoods but even more so, have provided a place for people to gather, listen to live jazz and attend special events. The open air plaza of the Town Square is perfect for events of all kinds including the Touch-A-Truck and Harvest Festival and the Charity Turkey Race.

The Town Square is also becoming known as the only LEED (Leadership in energy and environmental design) commercial building of its kind in northern Nevada. As the first to be registered under the core and shell program with LEED, the building has been built to qualify for Silver certification. The retail center was built with features that make it more energy and water efficient while recycling as much as possible during the process. The building offers optimized daylight and views as well as improved thermal comfort. Unique features include waterless urinals for conservation and Solatubes which maximize daylight by diffusing light and using optics that spread the light out into the room from the ceiling. The Town Square offers over 35,000 square feet of space with unique retail shops, restaurants and professional offices.
